A Relaxed Ride to Misquamicut Beach
One of my favorite rides in Westerly is along Atlantic Avenue toward Misquamicut Beach. Riders can use the paved Minabaug Path, located across from Misquamicut State Beach, to enjoy part of the area and avoid getting caught in busy beach traffic.
The best part of this ride is turning it into a complete beach-day outing. After visiting the beach, stop for lunch or a drink at The Andrea or Windjammer Surf Bar. Both are located directly along the Misquamicut shoreline. Or grab an ice cream before riding back.
This is a great option for vacationers who want a relaxed ride rather than a long-distance cycling route. A single-speed beach cruiser works well for casual riding around Misquamicut, while a geared bike provides additional flexibility for riders continuing farther along the coast.
Local Tip: Atlantic Avenue becomes especially busy during the summer, so riders should remain alert, follow posted signs, and use designated paths or bicycle areas wherever possible.

Ninigret Park in Charlestown offers plenty of space for biking, recreation, and family activities. The park features a nine-tenths-of-a-mile paved course that is open to cyclists. A separate, clearly marked 1.3-mile bike path begins near the parking area by A Kid’s Place Playground. This makes the park a great option for anyone looking for a relaxed ride away from busy roads.
